About CCIE Enterprise - Network Assurance
Network assurance is the discipline of continuously validating that a network is operating as intended, detecting deviations before they impact users, and providing the visibility needed to troubleshoot and optimize performance. For CCIE Enterprise candidates, assurance represents a modern and increasingly critical domain — one that separates expert engineers who simply configure networks from those who can prove, monitor, and guarantee network behavior at scale.

This module provides expert-level mastery of Cisco DNA Assurance, streaming telemetry, Cisco ThousandEyes, and network performance baselining — all key components of the CCIE Enterprise Infrastructure exam. You will learn to leverage AI and machine learning-driven insights from Cisco Catalyst Center to proactively identify anomalies, understand root causes, and implement guided remediation. The model-driven telemetry section teaches you to build real-time observability pipelines from IOS-XE and IOS-XR devices.

The program also addresses Cisco ThousandEyes — Cisco's internet and cloud intelligence platform — providing deep expertise in agent deployment, test configuration, path visualization, and network outage triage from the user's perspective. Combined with performance baselining methodologies and SLA monitoring, this module gives you a complete assurance toolkit applicable to enterprise networks of any scale, and directly prepares you for the assurance and monitoring questions in the CCIE Enterprise lab exam.

Streaming telemetry pipeline lab was excellent

Building the complete pipeline from IOS-XE gRPC dial-out through Telegraf, InfluxDB, and Grafana was a highlight of my entire CCIE preparation. The practical value of this module extends well beyond the exam.

ThousandEyes coverage is uniquely comprehensive

I had never worked with ThousandEyes before. This module not only covers all agent types and test types but also shows how to deploy agents on SD-WAN edges and correlate the data with vManage metrics. Very practical and immediately applicable.

DNA Center assurance AI insights are well explained

The explanation of how DNA Center computes health scores and generates AI-driven insights — with actual lab access to the platform — is something I had been looking for. The anomaly detection section was particularly eye-opening.

Performance baselining methodology is very mature

The baselining methodology section is something every network team needs but rarely implements properly. The statistical approach (mean and percentile thresholds) combined with Grafana alerting gave us a proper framework to implement at our organization.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Is streaming telemetry and ThousandEyes tested in the CCIE lab exam?

Yes. The CCIE Enterprise Infrastructure v1.x lab exam includes network assurance and monitoring as a tested domain. While specific tool versions may vary, the ability to configure streaming telemetry, interpret assurance dashboards, and troubleshoot monitoring pipeline issues is directly tested.

Q. Do students get access to ThousandEyes in the labs?

Yes. Students receive access to a shared ThousandEyes organization with enterprise agents deployed in the lab environment. You can configure all test types, analyze path visualization data, and review Internet Insights to develop practical ThousandEyes skills.

Q. What time-series database platform is used in the telemetry labs?

The telemetry pipeline labs primarily use InfluxDB 2.x with Flux query language and Grafana for visualization. Prometheus is also introduced in the alerting module. Students set up the full stack in the lab environment from scratch.

Q. How does this module complement the automation module?

The automation module (CCIE Enterprise Automation) focuses on configuration management and change automation, while this assurance module focuses on observability, monitoring, and proactive network health management. Together they cover the full network lifecycle: change automation + operational visibility. Both are strongly recommended for CCIE candidates.

Q. Is NetFlow/IPFIX still relevant with streaming telemetry available?

Yes. NetFlow/IPFIX remains widely deployed and is explicitly part of the CCIE Enterprise Infrastructure blueprint. While streaming telemetry provides richer, lower-latency data, NetFlow is still the primary traffic analytics tool in many enterprises. Both are covered in depth in this module.
